The short version: your notes are stored on your phone, not by us. To turn what you say into a written note, it passes through our servers to OpenAI and is not kept by us. We count how Centis is used without knowing who you are.
What stays on your device
The name of the person you care for, how you refer to them, your notes, tasks, reminders and settings are saved in your browser's storage on your device. There is no account and no copy on our servers. If you clear your browser data, uninstall the home-screen app, or lose your phone, those notes are gone unless you saved a copy.
If you record a note while offline, the recording waits on your device until it can be sent, then is removed.
Your browser also keeps a copy of the app itself on your device, so Centis opens with no signal. That copy is the app's own pages and code, never your notes.
Saved copies are files you create and keep yourself. We never receive them. They contain your notes, so keep them somewhere private.
What passes through our servers, and isn't kept
When you use a feature that needs it, your device sends:
- Recording a note: the audio, the person's name and pronoun.
- Organizing a note: the transcript, name and pronoun.
- The summary, asking a question, or writing a family update: your notes and the question.
Our servers pass this to OpenAI, which transcribes and organizes it, and return the result to your device. We do not store the audio, the transcript, your notes or your questions. Under OpenAI's terms for its API, content sent to it is not used to train its models, and may be retained by OpenAI for up to 30 days to detect abuse. Our servers run on Vercel, which keeps short-lived technical logs of requests, including IP addresses.
What we do keep
- Usage counts. A random ID created on your device, the name of an action (like “looked at the home page”, “opened the app” or “saved a note”) and the time. If you arrived through a link we published somewhere, we also keep which of our links it was — chosen from a short list we wrote, never anything the link itself could carry about you. Never what you said, never the person's name, never your notes. We use this to see whether Centis is useful and where it breaks.
- Feedback you type. If you write feedback in the app, we keep exactly what you typed, and any contact details you chose to add. It is encrypted before it is stored.
- Protection against misuse. To stop automated abuse, we count requests per visitor per hour. The counter is labelled with a one-way code made from your IP address and a secret that changes every hour, so the same visitor can't be followed from one hour to the next, and the code can't be turned back into your address without that secret. The counters are deleted after an hour, and we never store the address itself.
- A waitlist address, if you join one. If you ask to be told when a feature is ready, we keep that email address, the price shown and when you joined — nothing about the person you care for, and nothing that ties the address to what you do in the app. The address is encrypted before it is stored. We use it to tell you when it ships, or that it won't be built, and we delete it if you ask.
- Emails you send us, in our mailbox.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no ad trackers, no third-party analytics, no cookies for tracking.
- We don't sell or share your information with anyone for their own use.
- We don't create profiles about you or the person you care for.
Health information
Centis is a personal tool for families. It isn't offered by a doctor, hospital or health plan, and it isn't a medical service. The notes are yours, kept on your device.
Children
Centis is for adults. It isn't meant for anyone under 18.
Your choices
- Delete a note, or everything, from inside the app at any time.
- Save a copy of your notes and take them anywhere.
- Ask us about anything we hold, or to delete feedback you sent, at hello@centis.app.
Reporting a security problem
If you find a way to get at information you shouldn't, please tell us at hello@centis.app. We'll reply, fix it, and credit you if you'd like that.
Changes
If how Centis handles information changes, this page changes first, with a new date at the top. A change that would store your notes on our servers would be explained in the app before it happened, not just here.
